Lord Mountbatten film

Gurinder Chadha's next is on partition

Quote
Gurinder Chadha, who gave birth to twins in 2007, is now lighter by 25 kg. The 'Bend It Like Beckham' director is planning her next film, based on partition, which will be shot in Delhi and Jodhpur in October. The film revolves around Lord Mountbatten, and Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender are being considered for the role. Gurinder is keen on Saif Ali Khan to play Jawaharlal Nehru, and has spoken to Naseeruddin Shah, who is game to play Jinnah.
Gurinder says, "The central character is Mountbatten. The film is set in January 1947, and ends in August 1947. I've spoken to some people including Naseer and Saif. Nehru's role is a cameo, so I wonder if Saif will be willing to do it."

Gurinder has also got permission to shoot at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

If they start filming in October, there is no way Michael can take part in it. But still, news is news.  :)

Besides, if the film is set in 1947, Mountbatten was 47 then. Michael is too young for that role. I know he looks mature, but no way he looks like someone in his late 40s. Although looks-wise (not age-wise) he looks more like Mountbatten than Colin Firth, IMO.

I had a look at the wiki article on him, he was a handsome man in his youth.  You're right, of the two, MF looks more like him.

Because of the scheduling of this I see it going to Colin, although it does sound like an interesting project.

I think it's weird that they'd be competing/considered for the same role.  There's like a 17 year age difference between them.

What amuses me a lot is that, now, almost every project has his name in it. Not even Superman ......

I don't think he will be available for this but I would love to see him do something more indie and low key, so far his next projects are "hollywood" projects.

Steve McQueen is what more far from Hollywood I can think of.

He is far from Hollywood but this new movie is already so big and you know Pitt and Michael will continue to drawn a lot of attention to the movie.
